Celebration of Married Life on Saturday 16th May , there will be a special Celebration Mass for Married Life at Leeds Cathedral at 12 Noon for couples and their families celebrating their 25th (Silver), 40th (Ruby), 50th (Golden), 60th (Diamond) and 70th (Platinum) wedding anniversaries this year. There will be an opportunity for couples, who wish to do so, to renew their marriage vows during the liturgy. The Chapel Of Our Lady of the Crag in Knaresborough - We are a small group of local people who hold the Chapel of Our Lady of the Crag in Trust. We are in need of more trustees, gardeners, volunteers and fundraisers to help us in our mission to keep this unique site open to visitors. Help create a 'garden' in the Lady Chapel for Holy Thursday at St Aelred by loaning a household plant within a pot. Bring it to Church on Palm Sunday, 28/29th It does get cold in the Chapel so don’t bring a very delicate plant as it may not survive. We are also asking for any greenery and white, yellow or orange flowers for the Church for Easter. Please bring these along by or on Holy Thursday, 2nd April for St Aelred’s. A retiring collection will be taken at both churches on Palm Sunday towards flowers for the Easter season.

World Day of Prayer: A women led, global ecumenical movement – annually first Friday in March Friday 6th March at 2pm at St Mary’s RC Church, Bond End, Knaresborough . Our sisters in Nigeria invite us to join them for the World Day of Prayer. The service they have prepared reflects the theme, “I will give your rest”. 120 participating countries will be celebrating this service on the same day. It begins in Samoa and moves across the world in a continuous wave of prayer, finishing 38 hours later in American Samoa. It truly is a worldwide day of prayer. The World Day of Prayer is an international women-led ecumenical movement that shares the hopes, concerns and prayers of women from around the globe. Each year women from a different country craft a service, sharing their unique spiritual journey and culture. For 2026 the women of Nigeria have created a service that speaks to our need for peace and solace, drawing on their faith and experiences in a world filled with struggles and anxieties. This is the first time for more than 10 years that St Mary’s have held the service - next year it will be held at St John’s CofE. Please support us . Parish pilgrimage to Walsingham

Saturday 27th September

We are joining the Diocesan Pilgrimage to Walsingham. The coach will leave Harrogate at about 6.15am arriving in time for Mass at 12 noon followed by procession along the Holy Mile and Benediction in the Abbey grounds. We will return to Harrogate about 10pm. Packed lunch will be needed, and we are hoping to plan a stop for fish and chips at the seaside on our return journey. The church will be open from 5pm – 6:30pm on Friday 13th and on Saturday 14th from 9am, for willing volunteers to drop off cakes, buns and biscuits, or to help set up and volunteer on the big day. This is a real community event, and it would be great to have volunteers from both St Marys and St Aelred’s parishes, to forge new friendships and support a great cause .  First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion at St Aelred's Church 2025 : Enrolment forms for the preparation for these Sacraments are now available for collection and on the website. First Reconciliation is for children in school year 3 or above and the First Reconciliation service will be held on Saturday 15th March at 4.30pm. First Holy Communion preparation is for children in school year 4 or above and the First Holy Communion Service will be held at 9am Mass on Sunday 18th May 2025. Completed enrolment forms should be returned to Deacon David by Sunday 1st December 2024.

Bishop Marcus was one of just two Bishops of England and Wales (the other being Archbishop John Wilson) required to attend the second session of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome. This was held at the Vatican, with both lay and clergy delegates often working 12-hour days throughout the month of October, discerning and discussing the theme ‘For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission’.
