Visit of Pope Benedict - The Bishops of England and Wales have issued a booklet outlining Pope Benedict's programme for his visit to the UK in September. Copies of this booklet are available at the back of church. The booklet forms part of the preparation the Bishops are making for the State Visit of His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI to the United Kingdom. "We hope that the information contained in the booklet will be helpful in answering some of the basic questions of the general population in our countries who are curious about the visit of Pope Benedict, what it means, and why it is an event to be celebrated." Bishop Roche. As a more useful and easily accessible resource for your parishioners, the document can also be viewed and downloaded from www.thepapalvisit.org.uk. Please pray for the success of this visit of Pope Benedict XVI to the United Kingdom from 16 to 19 September 2010.

The CAFOD Auction on Saturday night raised £314.57 for the new Rwanda Appeal to which the Parish has just committed.  Thank you so much for all those who donated goods, took part in the auction, made refreshments, bought the left overs or helped to clear away.  We had a really enjoyable evening and owe a great deal to the efforts of Lorraine, Sue Brockett and Kenny.  Very well done!

Groups Reports for PPC AGM.  I should be grateful if the leaders of the various church groups could send me a brief report of the last year's activities (preferably by email) for inclusion in the 2010 AGM minutes.  It would be very helpful if I received these by 6 September. Many thanks.  Maggie Fox, PPC Secretary (maggie.fox@ntlworld.com).

Coffee – Martin & Alice invite you to tea/coffee in the Hall after 10am Mass.

Do you come to Mass by car?  Could you occasionally offer a lift to one of our elderly or infirm Parishioners who would otherwise be unable to attend Mass? The SVP has a rota of volunteers and we are always looking for more help.  Please contact Mike or John (886928).

Mothers’ Prayers – No meeting in August.

The White Fathers’ Mission Appeal 25th July 2010.  The White Fathers are an international team of priests, brothers and lay associates from Africa, Britain and many countries around the world. Through parish work, building up small Christian communities, working with the media, involvement in justice and peace, agriculture, seminary training, education and social welfare, the White Fathers aim to work in partnership with the Church in Africa and, above all else, to help build up the leadership of the Churches.

Papal Visit

Arrangements have now been provided by the Diocese for the visit by the Pope in September.

There will be two opportunities for parishioners to join the Holy Father:

Papal Prayer Vigil, Hyde Park, London, Saturday 18 September 2010.

As the vigil is expected to finish at 9.30 pm arrival home will be very late. (Expected cost to be £38 per person which includes coach travel to London, prayer vigil material and a London travel permit to reach Hyde Park).

And

Mass of Beatification, Cofton Park, Birmingham, Sunday 19 September 2010.

Mass begins at 9.30 am and therefore an early start will be necessary. (Expected cost to be £25 per person which includes coach travel and liturgical material).

Attendance at both events is being co-ordinated centrally - individual pilgrims will not be allowed entrance to either event as entry is by parish groups only.  Children must be accompanied by a family member.

Due to tight time scales it is essential that Parishioners complete

a registration form immediately after Masses this weekend

and leave it with Deacon David or Robert Snelling.

Day for Life 2010 - Lord for your faithful people, life is changed, not ended. The annual Day for Life is celebrated in England and Wales this weekend 25 July 2010). This year's theme focuses on the meaning of Christian death and care for those who are dying. At every Mass we remember all who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith as well as those whose faith is known to God alone. One of the eucharistic prayers used at funerals reflects the church's teaching on eternal life: "Lord for your faithful people, life is changed, not ended." This year's Day for Life gives us the opportunity as individuals and as a community to reflect on the experience of death and dying. Our parishes need to be places of solace and comfort for those who have entered the final phase of their lives, and their families, as well as those on the painful journey of bereavement. To help us reflect on these issues further there is a short leaflet available at the end of Mass.
